Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsthis we did two different things in two sessions. In first session, we worked on Arduino. We needed a sample to make the sample in the Arduino. Our teacher showed us trailer from an 80’s movie called Knight Rider. In that movie, there car is a car and at the front there are some LED lights that light-up back and forth. After watching it, we wanted to make one just like that. Out teacher helped us do that. We copied a certain code from the Arduino website and past Arduino software. We also had made a connection from the Arduino board to the bread board. Both boards get power from the computer through a USB connection. We connect he LED lights on the dread board. After finishing all that, it worked. There is code in there to control the speed of the LEDs. When the number goes up the LED light’s up slowly, when down LED lights up fast. In the afternoon session we had a trip in NYU. Over there, students work on electrical design. First, we walked around and watched what people were doing. After that, some students came in and presented their projects. Their entire project looked fun to me. These are the two sessions we did today.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsThis morning, we learned how to solder and how to do it safely. We solder wires. We solde resisters onto perfboard. After lunch we were watching video about Glover warming. Al gore he was the main host of the video. He was talk about many things in US and about why Glover warming is happening. In particular he discussed the impact of ice melting and forests booming.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsToday we did green trees tree’s guard all day. We had to use wood, hammer. Nail and drill. I like that work it was fun to do. We did work on six trees guard. Maybe we will do more some other day.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsThis morning we learned about different kind off motors. Those motors were DC motor, Servo motor, and stepper motor. During the afternoon we did work on wind turbine. Every group had to made their own wind turbine wings , so far our group had the good wind turbine wings but we didn’t have enough time to finish that we have do another time.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsToday in the morning we discussed what we will be doing for our final projects. We also discussed the next step we have to do for the project. This after noon I worked on what I materials need to create my project. My final project will be to make a RC helicopter. But I’m still thinking about what I have to do. Also NY1 was interviewing us. And we worked on design.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsToday in the morning I was continued worked on my final project. James he was helping us. My final project will be making RC solar power. Today I did lot research about how to build car. James he told me too research RC car website. I went that website I identify lot information. Hopefully next week I can start doing my project.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsThis morning I did work on MW interesting project. The project is Laser light sound transformer. To make MW audio jack I had to do wear soldier. I had to do soldier wear to the LCD. And I connect all wear to each other. I use battery for laser. Then I succeeded to make sound.

Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsToday in Greenfab I finished up my final project. My final project is a solar psp charger, which I call spc. My final steps in my project was soldering negative, and positive to a power jack. After that I taped a piece of cardboard to the back of the solar panel so that the panel would stay in place. The final part was me drilling a hole on the top of the case for the led light, so that you could tell whether its on are not.

Kenny Nava, 2010 May 18 Final Blog
Posted on May 20th, 2010 No commentsHello everyone, its been a while since my last blog. But I am happy to report in again. A lot has happened since my last update, so there’s a lot to write about. For starters, My STP (senior thesis project) is complete. I wasn’t able to complete the journal entries I set out to do at first. Since I didn’t keep a journal of how I completed my project step by step instead I will explain everything now. At first I just did drawing samples. I just wanted to know what it would look like. I didn’t know exactly how it would look like, but after researching it online I came out with an idea. I actually saw online how mines should look like. Of course I didn’t want to create something you could buy, so I did a lot of research and I found other gloves that looked like mines and I researched what theirs did. The gloves I found online were just gloves with LED (light emitting diode) lights on it that did no other purpose. My project was more ambitious. I wanted to create a start for something bigger. My project was a simple but complicated glove that if you closed your hand, the glove lite up, and if you opened your hand it would dim the lights. That was just the start, this project is suppose to lead me to program the glove to control certain functions on a computer. Later on I wanted to add motion detectors and accelerometers to sense the motion of the phone. Along with a motion detector adapted to the computer, it would be like using a Nintendo Wii. Except the feeling is more realistic since its going to be connected to a computer and will be like a mouse for the computer. Imagine using your hand to scroll and click around your computer. It sounds simple enough. But besides my long term goal, my project was taking more time than it needed. After programming my Arduino I thought I was ready, but several times my actual code for the Arduino was lost and my Arduino needed some changes. So I had to rewrite my code about 3 times. After a while it was simple enough, so I’m glad I lost the code because now I know exactly what codes I need and how to write them for each LED and each flex sensors. So after I finally got my code safely saved I started to work on the actual glove. I sewed the flex sensors on the glove with a conductive string. Kind of mysterious to me since I don’t know how it works and from the looks of it, it doesn’t look conductive or any different from any other type of string. But I thought it would help the flex sensor read better and the affect be much greater. So now the last step is connect everything together, once I connect the wires to the glove I’ll be done with my glove. At least for its first stage. The glove has so far gone from its first stage that was a drawing to being a complete glove that lights up with your own hand tension. It all so far works out good. Theres a lot of glitches but i guess nothing starts out good at first. the LED lights sometimes don’t dim or are fully lite up when your hand is open. I hope to eventually make it wireless and fix the glitches. But this is the project now. Its actually harder then it seems and honestly its taken a while for it to be completed. I’m glad now that its done and I hope to further it in the future and make it control a computer. I could not insert any pictures due to lack of help here in green fab. so i apologize for not showing you any pictures. I have them in my email so if any one is interested in seeing them in action you can email me for photos. This is my last day in Green Fab so good bye everyone and good luck.
